Jose "Joe" Salinas Obituary

Jose "Joe" Salinas was called Home on January 14, 2021.  Joe was born August 17, 1941, in Robstown, Texas. As a child, he moved to Mabton, Washington with his family, then relocated to Granger in 8th grade.  He graduated from Granger High School in 1961 as an honored athlete with several letter awards--most notably in baseball.  He then served in the US Army from 1961 to 1965, earning an honorable discharge.

Soon after leaving the Army, he married Juanita "Janie" Robles, and had two sons, Joe and Robert. After separating from Janie in 1987, Joe started a new life chapter with Sharon Zecchino, with whom he remained until his passing. Joe and Sharon have a son, James.

Throughout his life, Joe had a genuine commitment to service.  After his time in the Army, he served the Granger community managing the town's public works department. He later moved to Toppenish public works, and then to Port of Sunnyside. He performed well throughout his career and made many friends along the way.

When he was away from work, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family.  During the spring, he loved playing intramural softball.  Self-described as "Rough, Tough, and Handsome", Joe was always the charmer. He was a quick wit, and loved trading friendly jabs with people he liked.

In addition to his work and family life, Joe would often go out of his way to take care of those around him, pitching in to dig a trench, build a fence, paint a house, fix a car, etc. When someone was in need, Joe was usually among the first to volunteer.

Joe is survived by Sharon Zecchino, his sons Joe Michael (wife Katy Ybarra), Robert Anthony, and James Dale, grandson Noah, granddaughters Deven, Avery, Caroline, and Rozlynn, and countless friends and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his mother Adelfina Salinas Ortiz, Pedro Ortiz, brother Jesse, and sister Paula Estrada.
