Our sweet mother, Karen K. Shrewsberry, of Sunnyside, peacefully passed away in her home on Monday, April 21st, 2025, surrounded by her loving children. Karen was born on May 1, 1946, in Yakima, Washington, to Edward and Marjorie Liebert. Karen grew up working alongside her parents and two siblings on their family’s orchard. She graduated from West Valley High School with the class of 1964.
While attending Yakima Valley College, Karen met Dave, and they began their 54-year marriage and love story on May 3, 1969. Dave and Karen had three children: Lynn, Kay and Keri.
Karen began a career in banking in Sunnyside, but took time off to raise her three children. In 1985 Karen went back to work with her husband, opening a men’s clothing store, Bigg Longe & Littel, in Sunnyside, WA. Eventually, she went on to work at JC Penney’s in Sunnyside and then returned to a career in banking at Yakima Federal Savings & Loan until she retired in 2013.
During her retirement, Karen enjoyed spending time with family, tending to her garden and yard, and going on many adventures with her husband and partner in crime, Dave.
Karen devoted her life to family, but above all to being a wonderful mother and grandmother. Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Dave, her parents, her brother, Wayne Liebert, and her grandson, Chance Shrewsberry. She is survived by her children: Lynn Shrewsberry (Brenda), Kay LaRoche (Sean), Keri O’Brien (Brady) and her grandson, Jackson. She is also survived by one sister Sheryl Graham (Mike) of Yakima and many special cousins and friends.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th from 10:30am until the funeral service at 1:00pm at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Burial will be in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, WA. Please join us in celebrating an amazing woman and a life well-lived.
