Kenneth Hicks Obituary

Kenneth Leroy Hicks, born in Sunnyside on October 21st 1933 and passed on June 23rd, 2024 in Yakima at the Cottage in the Meadow.

He was 90. He said "I have had a long and good life." Ken grew up going to school at Sunnyside High School where he

lettered in boxing, ran track and played baseball. After he got out of school he married Shirley Clune in 1953.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 and was a Boiler Operator where  he served his country in the Korean war and was honorary discharged in 1959.

When he got out of the US Navy they moved from California back to Washington and started a family of 4 boys and one girl.

He got a job at Hanford where he worked as an Operating Engineer. He work there from 1959-1994. (40 years) He had a part time job off and on

at a Sunnyside a small engine repair shop where he loved to tinker on small engines. In 1981 he married Donna Platt who had 4 daughters and 1 son.

When they retired they opened a second hand store, played bingo and went on lots trips.

Later in life he rediscovered his love for baseball through the Seattle Mariners. Whether going to games or watching them on the television he was a true fan.

The thing that stands out most  about  his character was his generosity and the love to assist others with projects or errands. He loved to help and was paid with hugs and thank yous.

He is survived by Evelyn (Sister), Vickie (Sister), Bunny (Sister),  Konni (Daughter),  Shane (Son), Cindy (Step-daughter),  Curtis (Step-son), Bambi (Step-daughter), Tory (Step-daughter), Nikki (Step-daughter) 11 plus Grand Children, 17 plus Great Grand children , many nieces & nephews and extended family. He is Preceded in Death by Pearl Hicks (Father),  Lillie Albritton Hicks Hall (Mother), Marvin, Lawrence, Fred and Perry (Brothers), Louise, Hazel, and baby Hicks (Sisters), Kim, Kurt and Kirk (Sons)

A gathering in honor of Kenneth to be determined at a later time.
