Landon Stencil Schilperoort, 48, beloved son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, was born on April 29, 1977, and passed away on January 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Landon was raised on his family’s farm in Sunnyside, Washington, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong connection to agriculture. He helped raise livestock and worked with alfalfa, asparagus, and cherries.
He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1995, where he participated in wrestling and football. Shortly after graduation, Landon enlisted in the United States Army, leaving for basic training in August of 1995.
During his military career, Landon served as a combat engineer and later as an Apache helicopter mechanic. His service took him to Korea, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. He attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his service in Afghanistan, a testament to his bravery, skill, and dedication to his fellow soldiers.
Following his military service, Landon built a respected career in agriculture and dairy operations. He worked for Daritech, the South Yakima Conservation District, and later managed the farming operations with his friend and mentor, Eric Leyendekker, at Hidden Valley Dairy. Known as an exceptional mechanic, Landon could fix nearly anything and took pride in solving problems with precision.
Landon was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and going to Seattle Seahawks games with his brother Leland.
Landon received his cancer diagnosis on November 20 and returned home shortly after Thanksgiving to be surrounded by family.
Landon will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, mechanical skill, love of agriculture, devotion to family, and honorable service to his country. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
Landon was preceded in death by his grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and his Army brothers, whose bond he carried with him long after his service.
He is survived by his parents, Don and LaDonna (Hays) Schilperoort; his brother, Leland and his wife Tammy; his sister, Lacie and her husband Javier; his nieces, Raven, Jocelyn, SopheeaRose, and Bella; his nephews, Rykker and Aiden; his foster and adoptive children, Ryan, Ashley, and Zane; and his long-term partner, Angela, who stood faithfully by his side.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 23rd at 11:00 am at the Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church, followed by a gathering at the VFW, where friends and family will come together to honor and celebrate Landon’s life. In accordance with his wishes, Landon was cremated. Memorials in memory of Landon may be made to the Sunnyside V.F.W.
