Larry Claude Wise, 80, died August 22, 2023. He was born April 15, 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Kenneth and Winonna Burns Wise. He graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan University where he played football. On November 24, 1962 Barbara Ann Burr and he were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in West Liberty, Iowa.
From 1962 through 1966 Larry served in the US Airforce and was stationed at Minot Air Force Base in Minot, North Dakota. After his service, he worked for Boeing in Everett, Washington.
He continued his studies earning a BA and MA in secondary education at Seattle University and his PHD from Gonzaga University.
Always involved in educating and encouraging young students, Larry began his career as a social studies teacher at Skykomish, Washington, followed by a principalship in Sultan, Washington. He then became a superintendent known for solving difficult school district situations in Soap Lake, Rochester, Sunnyside, and the Educational Service District in Olympia, all in Washington.
Larry enjoyed sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, Washington Huskies, and Washington State Cougars. However, fishing was his favorite. He was a member of the Columbia Basin Bass Club and Northwest Bass, having won many awards and trophies. Gardening also engaged him, raising flowers and vegetables, mostly to generously share with staff and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, son Kenneth (Roxana Julia) of New York and daughter Kathleen Ann Dalbeck (Mark Dalbeck) of Washington, grandchildren Mateo and Franco Julia-Wise, as well as Brandon, Alysia and Nick Dalbeck. Also surviving is sister Connie (Jerry) Seaburg. Preceding him in death is a sister Starr (Skeet) Richardson and two brothers-in-law and parents.
