Nancy Daniels Obituary

Nancy Lou Daniels (95) was born to Henery (Bud) and Louise Becker on June 25, 1928, at Blakeburn Mine, BC, Canada.  The family lived in nearby Princeton, BC, until returning to the US at the start of WW2.  Nancy graduated from Grant HS in Portland, OR and enrolled at Lewis & Clark College.  While at Lewis & Clark, she met Lee (Danny) Daniels and they were married by the President of the College right after their graduation ceremony on June 4, 1950.  While she was teaching Home Economics at Parkrose Jr. High, they both enjoyed being involved with the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol and Mountain Rescue, and hiking and camping with their 2 children.  In 1965, the family moved to Klamath Falls, where Nancy spent the next 20 years teaching at Mazama Jr. High and Klamath Union HS.  This is also when they began sailing with the Klamath Yacht Club and upon retirement, bought a sailboat in Hawaii and spent several years sailing to and exploring the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. Several years later they sailed back to Brookings and eventually settled in LaPine, Oregon, to enjoy their roles as grandparents.  Nancy was a strong and determined woman who put herself through college and she continued to be amazed that she could go from a mining town kid to a college graduate.  As full as her life was, with her amazing health, she could have had many more adventures, but her struggle with dementia took the last 14 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Lee and her 5 siblings, Kathleen Huber, Mick Becker, Jerry Becker, Marie Pray and baby June Becker.  She is survived by her children, Susan Smith (Doug), Prosser, WA and Gary Daniels (Marcy), Clackamas, OR.  Grandchildren, James Daniels, Laura Daniels, Colin Smith (Lauren Lewis), Kendra Smith and 4 Great-grandchildren.  There will be no service at this time, however, donations to any animal shelter or Veterans group would be appreciated. Those wishing to sign Nancy’s online memorial book may do so at Smith Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
