Obituary

On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, Neil Young Sartain of Grandview passed away in a tragic automobile accident in Yakima, WA. Neil leaves behind a large and loving family, as well as a legacy of love and generosity rarely found in a single human being. On September 29, 1979, Neil was delivered into this world to his loving parents, Charles and Laurel (Charvet) Sartain. Born in the sunny Yakima Valley, Neil was the youngest of four children, and his arrival made the family complete. As a young boy, Neil relocated with his family to Las Vegas, NV and Houston, TX as his father’s work in the construction industry led them away from their small hometown of Grandview, WA. Neil would return to Washington with his family to settle in the Federal Way area. During his school-age years, Neil met Jacque Burnside and later fell head-over-heels for her and her young son, Dominic. Together, they added two more children to their small family, Asher Young and Raileigh May. In 2010, Neil returned home to the Yakima Valley for work and to raise his children. Neil followed in his father’s footsteps and chose a profession in the construction industry, where he worked the majority of his career for Mountain States Construction, alongside his brother, Mike, and several other family members. Though he took pride in his work, his greatest achievement and source of fulfillment were his children, whom he loved more than anyone else in the world. Like his dad, he loved to tell corny jokes and make people laugh. He had a vast capacity for love and would show great compassion and generosity to the closest of friends and complete strangers, alike. He was a big ol’ teddy bear, but it was his smile that filled a room first. The loss of Neil has left a vacancy in the family that can never be filled. Neil is preceded in death by his father, Charles Sartain. He is survived by his children Asher and Raileigh Burnside-Sartain of Federal Way, WA, Dominic Burnside of Federal Way, WA, his mother and stepfather Laurel and Bruce Rick of Auburn, WA, four siblings, Nicole Walker (Gary) of Grandview, WA, Danielle Sartain-Rick (Vance Lawton) of Olympia, WA, Michael Sartain (Tabitha) of Benton City, WA, and Nick Rick of Auburn, WA, nieces Hailey and Olivia, and nephews Braden, Michael, and Gunner, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
