Peter D. Oten, 88, of Prosser, WA passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 28, 2021. Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Cheshire, CT. He graduated from Cheshire Academy, and attended college at UConn and NYU becoming a Hydraulic and Fluidic Engineer specializing in industrial sales. Peter retired as President of Affiliated Controls Inc and held 3 patents. Peter is survived by Elizabeth A. Oten, his bride of 69 years and his high school sweetheart. He is also survived by 5 children, Peter Oten Jr (Jamie) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Timothy Oten (Nancy) of Prosser, WA, David Oten (JoLynn) of Racine, WI, Kathleen Young of Prosser, WA and Patricia Evans (Patrick) of Houston, TX. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Peter was a devoted follower of Christ and born-again Christian. His last church membership was with First Baptist of Jensen Beach, FL where he served as a deacon and was active with many church sponsored services to the community. Peter is resting in the arms of Jesus now. Peter was an electronics/computer hobbyist as well as a woodworking enthusiast. He loved music all his life and when younger enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was a bit of a gearhead who loved cars and enjoyed NASCAR on the weekends. While still living in Connecticut, he helped restore an antique Fire Engine for the volunteer Fire Department of Cheshire, CT. While retired in Florida before moving to Washington, he was the neighborhood handyman who helped fix problems that his neighbors came across. Peter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by many.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Grace Fellowship Church, Prosser, WA.
