Our beloved mother, Ramona Campos, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Ramona was born January 23, 1944 in Cotulla, Texas to Ramon Noriego Santos and Josefina Ochoa Santos. She was the third of nine children. Ramona lost her mother at a very young age. She took on the job of mother for her younger sisters and brother.
When Ramona was 16 years old she married Samuel Campos in Toppenish Washington. They were blessed with 60 wonderful years. Together they raised eight children; Samuel Jr. Ester, Sarah, Able, Daniel, Beatrice, Ramon, and Eliseo. Ramona worked for Del Monte cannery. Later with her family they traveled to Halsted, Minnesota where they worked in sugar beets.
Ramona loved to help. She volunteered as an interpreter. She also helped people in need with legal documents and doctors appointments. Ramona always opened her home to anyone who needed a place to stay or just a plate of her wonderful food. In 1987, Ramona opened Mamas Taco truck. It was much loved by the local police officers and employees of the Farm workers clinic. She was famous for her tacos, tortas, and enchiladas.
Over the years Ramona and Samuel would travel to Santa Gertrudis, Coahuila, Mexico Samuels’ birthplace. They would also visit her siblings in Arizona. Ramona enjoyed these trips. Later they would spend time in Arizona where their son, Sammy, was pastor of a congregational church. Here she enjoyed cooking and feeding the homeless and needy of the area. Many of Ramona‘s favorite moments involved her beloved church, Iglesias Del Valle with pastor Enedeo Garza. Here she loved to sing and help with church fundraisers. In her later years she got connected with the Seattle prayer warriors a phone support group. Ramona was a race runner. She never gave up till the end. Now she has handed the baton to her family to carry on her legacy.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Samuel, children Ester (Julio Ruiz), Sarah (Adrian) Cantu, Abel (Angie) Campos, Beatrice (Thomas) Montelongo, Ramon (Brezzi) Campos, Eliseo Campos, special son Tony Aguilar and countless grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also daughter-in-law Cecelia Campos and Alicia Dones. She is preceded in death by sons, Samuel Jr., and Daniel.
