Ray Frank Smasne, 81, of Grandview, WA, peacefully passed away on October 13, 2023.
He was born in Sunnyside in 1942 to Charley and Marie Smasne. He graduated from Grandview High School and devoted his life to farming.
Ray married the love of his life, Fredda, on September 27, 1963. That same year they purchased the farm where they spent the next 60 years building a family together.
He loved to farm and was proud to grow grapes for Welch’s. He was instrumental in growing millions of nursey plants over the years that are widely planted throughout the Yakima Valley. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and horseback adventures. He found peace on the seat of the tractor and loved working in his fields. He enjoyed pig shows and raising them for 4-H and FFA kids.
Ray was incredibly proud of his five children. He was a devoted father who found happiness and joy in each of them. His Grandkids were his pride and joy. He enjoyed attending games, dance recitals, concerts and fairs with them.
Ray is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His kindness and willingness to help others will carry on for many years. He loved big and had a way of making one feel as if all was good with the world. He had a big smile, baby blue eyes and joking humor. He was a friend to many and loved by many.
Ray and Fredda were active members of the Grandview Church of the Nazarene.
Ray is survived by his wife Fredda and his five children and their families. Bill (Jill) Smasne, (Jenni, Kati), Brian (Michelle) Smasne, (Riley, Owen), Robert (Cherie) Smasne, (Kaitlin, Konner, Grace), Brent (Jamie) Smasne (Ava, Olivia) and Sarah (Mitch) Coates, (Claire, Lauren, Charley). He is survived by two sisters, Karen Jones and Sharon Hudnall.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents (Charley and Marie Smasne) and his siblings; John, Paul, Mary, Francis and JoAnn.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 11am at the Grandview Nazarene Church.
