Ricardo Torres Varela, age 84, of Mabton, WA passed away on Thursday July 18, 2024 at Cottage in the Meadows in Yakima, WA. He was born on April 3, 1940 in San Antonio Del Cirpes Zacatecas Mexico the son of Rafael Torres and Amalia Varela. Ricardo married his wife Aida Arteaga on June 6, 1966. They made their way to Sunnyside, WA in 1967 and later settled in their forever home in Mabton, WA. Ricardo worked in several agriculture farms throughout the Yakima Valley. He enjoyed barbequing after work or on the weekends he always made sure to have more than enough food for everyone. When Ricardo retired he enjoyed his time with his family especially his grandchildren. Every time his grandchildren or family would visit he didn’t wanted them to leave, so he would always say “aquí Quédate” (stay here). Ricardo also enjoyed going to goodwill and drive around the valley to enjoy the scenery. He also enjoyed watching western movies and tv shows. He is survived by his 5 children, Rick Torres Jr of Mabton, WA., Jose Torres of Benton City, WA., Mary Garcia (Martin Garcia) from Mount Vernon, WA., Rafael Torres of Yakima, WA., Angela Calderon (Jorge Calderon Jr.) of Sunnyside, WA., and ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ricardo is also survived by 4 siblings, Juana Torres Varela of Mexico, Herlinda Torres Varela of Mexico, Julia Torres Varela of Mexico, Patrocino Torres Varela of Mexcio and loved by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Rafael Torres; his mother, Amalia Varela; an infant son; his loving wife, Aida Torres; his brother, Heriberto Torres Varela; his sisters, Raquel Torres Varela and Carmen Torres Varela.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Burial will follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, WA.
