Ricardo “Junior, Fonzy, Richie” Lopez Jr., 62, of Mabton passed away Monday, November 28, 2022.
Ricardo was born on March 3, 1960 in Sunnyside, WA to Ricardo J. Lopez and Elva Garcia Lopez. He graduated from Mabton High School with the class of 1978.
Growing up we worked together in the Yakima Valley cutting asparagus, digging and cutting hop roots for propagating, and picking grapes. In the Summer we would travel to Lynden and Ferndale to pick strawberries, raspberries and blue berries. Ricardo also worked locally at Independence Foods for many years and at a potato farm in Lynden, WA. Junior had a good, kind heart. After the loss of our Mom in 2014, functioning and coping with life became more difficult. No matter how tough things became for him, he would always find a way to make you smile. We hoped that one day he would take the offer to live a better life, but he lived life his way.
He is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Moises Lopez of Kennewick, David Lopez of Bellingham, Esther Melendrez and husband, Jose, of Sunnyside, Noemi Lopez of Yakima and Rachel L. Zavala and husband, Michael, of Mabton; six nieces and nephews, Eva Perez, Antonio Lopez (Kaitlyn), Alyssa Lopez, Joshua Lopez, Veronica Zavala (Saul Flores) and Olivia Zavala; and six great nieces and nephews, Emilio Navarro, Xavier Lopez, Zeleo Lopez, Evony Lopez, Uriah Zavala and Saul Epigmeñio Flores, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Mom, Elva Garcia Lopez and his Dad, Ricardo J. Lopez; two brothers, Luis Lopez and Joshua Lopez; his Grandparents, Daniel Sr. and Sabina Garcia and Grandparents Cosme and Delfina Mungia.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Those wishing to sign Ricardo’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com. Smith Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
