Robert James Barker

Robert J. Barker, 86, passed away on February 7, 2019 of natural causes at home surrounded by his family.  Robert was born February 10,1932 in Grandview, Washington, the son of James Robert Barker and Bessie Ann (McDaniels) Barker of Grandview, Washington.

Robert graduated from high school in 1952.  Following graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps. In 1959, he met and married Marilyn Ilene Carel. The sweethearts made their home in Grandview, Washington.  They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in December. Robert was employed at Twin City Foods for 42 years.  In his off time, Robert enjoyed working on projects with his son, Kirk. One project they worked on together and were particularly proud of was building Kirk’s home.

Robert is survived by his sweetheart and wife, Marilyn (Carel) Barker; his son, Kirk James Barker (Margaret) of Vancouver, Wa; two granddaughters, Amanda (Barker) Rodriguez (Julio) and Kimberly Barker of Vancouver, WA; brother, Albert Barker of Grandview Wa; Bud (Donita) Carel of Vancouver, Washington; Beverly Makepeace of Independence, Iowa, as well as, several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three half sisters, two half brothers, 3 brothers and 3 sisters in law.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2:00 p.m.  to  5:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA.  A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Sunnyside Washington.
