Roger Whitis, of Sunnyside, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 18, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by family and his closest friends. He left this world the same way he lived in it — with love around him, comfort in his heart, and without pain.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, brother, and loyal friend whose bright spirit and infectious smile could light up any room. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. After his military service, he dedicated 25 years of hard work as a boiler operator at the Hanford Site before enjoying more than 20 happy years of retirement.
Roger truly knew how to enjoy life. He loved antiques of every kind, especially clocks, and never passed up a good estate sale or a fun casino trip. He treasured the friendships he built over the years, and many of those friends became as close as family. Roger also believed in staying active and healthy, faithfully attending his 5 a.m. step aerobics class three days a week and making the most of his time at the Lower Valley Fitness Club.
What people will remember most about Roger was the joy he brought wherever he went. He had a sunny outlook on life, a warm heart, and a way of making everyone feel like an old friend. His kindness, humor, and positive energy left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Tina; his son, David; his sister, Judy, and her husband, James Perez; dear friend, Carol Erickson; and countless friends who loved him dearly.
A memorial celebration of Roger’s life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to sign Roger's online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhome.com
His family hopes those who knew Roger will remember him with a smile, share a good story, stay active, enjoy life’s little adventures, and continue spreading the warmth and positivity he gave so freely to others.
