Rosalie Browder

 The moment before Rosalie Browder breathed her last, she uncrossed her folded hands…and palms up, lifted them Heavenward. What a beautiful final image of this amazing woman. She’s now seen the Face of her Savior and is welcomed Home. Her loved ones left behind find comfort that she is also reunited with the love of her life, Ray Browder.

At 10 months of age her parents, Herb and Inez Guthrie sold their dairy farm in Oklahoma and moved west. Rosalie’s love for writing began in high school in Grandview, Washington. In her junior year she was editor for the school paper and began working part-time at the Grandview Herald. She continued to work there for two years after graduating, saving every penny to afford going to Linfield College in Oregon. Her skills led her to be campus correspondent for The Oregonian and eventually the editor for the Linfield Review and President of Associated Women’s Studies, graduating honored as the first Journalist graduate of Linfield. Rosalie’s first job was Woman’s Editor of the Yakima Republic where one of her first assignments was to interview Pat Nixon. On August 7, 1954 she married Ray Browder, her best friend since meeting in third grade Sunday school. After that they were inseparable for 36 years. Their first home was in the University District in Seattle to finish Ray’s last year of Law School. Rosalie was the “wage earner” as Public Relations Director for the Seattle YWCA. Rosalie worked side-by-side with Ray at his Law Practice in Sunnyside and were together 24/7. Rosalie had a remarkable life, and when asked many years ago what she hoped her grandchildren would remember about her she simply said “I hope you will remember;

-playing tennis together

-picnicking at the symphony in the park

-playing scrabble

-making Birthday cakes out of play dough

-having me teach you how to play poker

-your visits to Sunnyside

-your visits to Yakima

-my visits to see you

-and, mostly that I love you very much.

Mrs. Browder is survived by her three daughters, Rebekah Ann Browder and her husband Ed Carignan, Jennifer Faye Roberts and husband Dave, Robin Ray Garboden and husband Mark. Her grandchildren Jamie Cooper, Chris Roberts, Ken Roberts, Ryan Decker and Blake Decker. She is preceded in death by her sister Betty Pearce and is survived by her sister Marie Noon, nieces Cathy, Janis and Katharine. Great grandchildren Charles, Kaylee Rose, Kennedy and Ray as well as countless lives she touched.

 Private Entombment at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Christus Mausoleum, Sunnyside, WA. In lieu of flowers memorials in Rosalie’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society.
