Schawna Jeanine Sachs

Schawna Sachs, beloved mother, Nana, and dear friend, passed away peacefully at home in Grandview, WA, surrounded by loved ones on September 15, 2024. Born on August 21, 1966, in Eugene, Oregon, Schawna was 58 years old. She will forever be remembered for her kind heart, infectious smile, and the joy she brought to those who knew her.

Schawna is survived by her father, Michael Newby of Pendleton, OR; brothers John and Pat Hoard of Springfield, OR; sons James and Johnathan Hudson and Joshua Sachs of Springfield, OR; daughter Jacquelyn (son Shawn) Edwards of Kuna, ID; and grandchildren Carson, Caylynn, and Calvin, also of Kuna, ID. She leaves behind dear friends Susan and Timothy Cant of Grandview, WA, who were by her side in her final moments.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marna Newby, and cherished grandchildren John, McKenzie, and Tyler.

A devoted stay-at-home mother, Schawna was an enthusiastic volunteer at her children’s schools, especially enjoying her time in the library. Her commitment to community extended through her active involvement in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where she rose to serve as Oregon State Madam President. Her time in the Eagles reflected her love for people, fundraising, and the Ritual, and she was known for her leadership, humor, and dedication.

Schawna’s family will remember her as a loving and devoted mother and nana, with memories of late-night card games, her passion for crafting, her love of 70s music, and her beloved dachshunds. Her friends and Eagle Brothers and Sisters will hold onto memories of her sarcastic wit, her radiant smile, and her deep passion for service.

Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, and may her family and friends find comfort in knowing that she is free from pain.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12th, at 1 p.m. at the Eagles in The Dalles, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to assist with funeral expenses or to Breast Friends, a cause close to Schawna’s heart during her time as Oregon State Madam President.
