In Loving Memory of Vaughn Quentin Merry Sr.
August 30, 1953 – October 17, 2025
Vaughn Quentin Merry Sr., a lifelong resident of Sunnyside, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 17, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with heart and lung disease. He was 72 years old.
Born on August 30, 1953, in Toppenish, Washington, Vaughn was the son of James and Betty (Lint) Merry. On February 14, 1976, he married his soulmate, Linda Darlene (Anderson) Merry, at the Anderson family home. Together, they built a life filled with love and resilience, raising eight children in the home they made their own.
Vaughn was a hard-working man who dedicated his life to providing for his family. He spent many years working as a mechanic and he owned and operated his own construction business, putting his skills and strong work eithic to use building and repairing homes throughout the community. He was admired for his craftsmanship, determination, and willingness to help anyone in need. Vaughn also proudly served in the U.S. Army early in his life.
Vaughn had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and four-wheeling—especially when it meant loading up the family and heading out for an adventure. He was the kind of man who found joy in the simple things and made the most out of every moment.
And then there was the music. Vaughn loved to dance and had a special place in his heart for jazz and blues. He could often be found grooving to his favorites—especially Jimi Hendrix—and pulling others into the rhythm with him. Whether it was dancing around the living room, playing air guitar, or just swaying along to a soulful tune, music brought him to life and brought joy to those around him.
He is survived by his brother, Rod (Jane) Merry, and his children: Bobbi (Trevor) Howe, Christopher Merry, Vaughn Jr. (Jennifer) Merry, Tina (Anthony) Schwab, Timothy (Brigitta) Merry, Jolene (Gordon) Merry, and Joseph (Melissa) Merry. He was a proud grandfather to Tristan, Brendan, Kyle, Trevor, Tatum, Nathaniel, Samantha, Elizabeth (Jonathan), Jacob, Jayden, Kelsey, Blake, Macayla, Timothy Jr., Emily, Bryce, Jane, Liam, Eleanora, and Valencia; and great-grandfather to Konner, Emily, Leilani, Chloe, Kian, Landon, and Eliana.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Linda Darlene Merry; his parents, James and Betty Merry; his brothers, Steven, Mark, and Darrell Merry; and his children, Thomas W. Merry and Kimberly J. Merry.
To his family, Vaughn was the heart and strength of their lives. He always had a story to tell, advice to give, and a way of making even the toughest days feel manageable. From river crossings in the old Chevy Blazer to spontaneous dance parties in the living room, he created a life full of unforgettable memories.
Though our hearts are heavy and the world feels a little dimmer without him, we are forever grateful for the time we had. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with Darlene, Thomas, and Kimberly. Vaughn left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
"Love always prevails. The day you gained your wings, we knew you were at peace. You will forever be cherished and remembered."

"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17
