We were lucky enough to be farming neighbors with Don. Loved his zest for life. He always lived to share story...and talk about cherries! Sending sympathy to your family.

My Uncle Don was an amazing man. He worked hard and enjoyed life at the same time. He battled post polio like a hero, and he always was willing to tell us stories of the farm. He spoke with humor and love in his heart. Our family dinners at Susan house, or picnics at his ranch in Grandview are such fond memories. Uncle Don embraced wellness and was always open to changing methods of his diet for healthy reasons. Fred and Don also grew superior fruit, and the brothers loved to share methods of horticulture. Uncle Don will be dearly missed by all of us.

Dear Mahre Family,

It is with great respect and admiration that my wife and I send our deepest sympathy to your entire family. Simply stated, we lost an exceptional man. Don was a wonderful fixture during an array of senior citizen programs and activities here in Grandview. He taught us all to embrace and enjoy the smaller things in life which added greatly to the grand scheme of things.

When we think of Don; the following adjectives come to mind: polite, mechanical, fun-loving, honorable, engaging, pool shark, story teller, humble, politically opinionated, sweet smile, family, researcher, caring and farm boy.

We all fondly remember seeing his love shine for his bride Marie. When she was confined to a wheel-chair, Don was so gentle, compassionate, and loving to her; making Marie his top priority in life. That's true love!

Again, Don was an absolutely wonderful man and we will all miss him dearly!
