Leona R. Maling

Leona R. Maling, age 96, longtime Sunnyside resident passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 in Sunnyside, WA. Leona was born on December 18, 1919 in Moscow, Idaho the daughter of Rosey (Bingman) and William F. Knape.  Leona was an avid sports fan and loved the Seattle Mariners.  She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, collecting owls and ceramics.  She is survived by two daughters, Regina Ovrid (Richard) of Seattle, WA and Charlene Maling and Brad Wilcox of Sunnyside, WA.  Three grandsons, Eric Ovrid, Christopher Ovrid and Justin Huston.  One sister, Mildred Cox of Des Moines, WA.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Maling, one brother, Fred Knape, three sisters, Minnie King, Ann Nuxell and Magdalene Easterwood. 

Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sunnyside, WA. under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA.  Those wishing to sign Leona’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sunnyside.
